Position: Operations Manager, Passenger Services Location: Sudbury, Ontario PURPOSE This position will be primarily responsible for the supervision of drivers and maintaining efficient operations Maintain and improve service levels in the assigned division Increase revenue, prepare budgets and control costs for the assigned division Oversee administrative functions for the assigned division Establish lines of communication with customers, supervisors, employees, agencies and Union representatives in order to increase productivity and improve service levels Handle the 1st step in the grievance procedure, administer the Union contract and suggest revisions and wording of subsequent contracts; must be familiar with pertinent sections of the contract, letters of understanding and the interpretation of policy manuals Regularly communicate with Operations Managers in other divisions and the Human Resources Department to ensure fair, consistent and equitable treatment of employees and application of contract provisions through the GCTC network KEY RELATIONSHIPS Manager works closely with the Operations, Safety, Maintenance, Human Resources Managers, and the Union RESPONSIBILITIES Develop procedures and programs to evaluate and improve customer service levels Regularly communicate with customers to proactively improve customer service in order to prevent service failure and erosion of customer base Investigate service failures and take necessary corrective action as required; counsel employees on how to prevent reoccurrence Implement marketing programs to increase revenues Prepare local budgets and provide feedback to Head Office when developing the operating budgets; monitor budgets and implement cost reduction strategies where applicable Administer Operator accommodation, Master Bids and operational procedures; modify as required Co-ordinate policies with both the Maintenance Department and GCX Department to ensure that operations staff are informed Responsible for proactive implementation of OH& S and WCB policies and procedures to improve safety and well being of all employees Responsible for recruiting employees, ensuring required documentation is completed as per GCTC policy which include hiring authorities, Payroll/Benefits, Human Resource/O.H.& S. documentation Responsible for ongoing supervision and administering confidential employee records, including disciplinary records, accurate pay details, employee status changes (HRAF) to ensure all entitlements accrued to the employee Responsible to promote the highest standard of quality service through teaching, training, counselling and personal example Co-ordinates the transportation plan for regional operations. EDUCATION/BACKGROUND Preference will be given to applicants with a completed degree or diploma in business, marketing or other such related programs Min 2 years supervisory background preferably in a unionized environment Excellent oral and writing skills are a must Strong belief in customer service REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of Federal, Provincial and local laws and regulations and knowledge of the Ministry of Transportation regulations and how to apply them to operator performance Expertise to communicate effectively both orally and written and utilize active listening skills Excellent interpersonal and management expertise Detailed understanding of the company/ATU Collective Agreement required Must be able work and communicate at both a detailed and overview level Must be able to take initiative and create innovative solutions to issues/problem Strong teamwork and relationship building abilities are required Must be able to prioritize and complete all tasks with little or no direct supervision Knowledge of collision investigation helpful Background with motorcoach operation Must know how to properly and effectively interview, hire and train individuals under parameter of current employment laws and company policies and procedures Willingness to work a flexible schedule, weekends and holidays WORK CONDITIONS Office environment, with some travel Computer literacy including Microsoft office suite suite and Microsoft Outlook APPLY NOW!!!
